About us

As you may know, there are 2 genes: the “travel gene” and the “host gene” – We have both. Our parents traveled in order to become acquainted with foreign countries, the people, and their cultures. Papa Edi was a real adventurer. He dove with hammerhead sharks in Palau and great white sharks in South Africa. He headed into the mountains of Nepal and Tibet, visited the Papuans, the indigenous inhabitants of Papua New Guinea, and explored the unique fauna of the Galapagos….

As exciting as all this may be, Mama Christa preferred to stay home. She was a supporter of the motto: why travel afar when such wonderful things are right in front of you... Her favorite vacation destination is and remains the balcony with a view of the forest.

Isabell and Tina regularly packed their bags and bought a one-way ticket only to enjoy the feeling of returning home after their great adventure. They saw much and learned more... When people you don’t know well and whose language you don’t understand invite you to share a little of themselves and what they have, you will then understand the true meaning of hospitality – a gift that we would also like to pass on to you.   

Our biggest adventure was definitely our MILCHBAR. In the 48 years that we have been happily running our café-restaurant “MILCHBAR”, we have seen many things… As the saying goes: the way to one’s heart is through the stomach, but here, that love goes even further ;-) …marriage proposals, first kisses, and sometimes even last ones. Tears of sorrow and joy, heated debates, and very secret conversations and meetings that supposedly never happened. There has been dancing and laughing, and guests who had their fingers where they didn’t belong were tied to chairs and if they started fighting, they were set outside the door. We have actually been able to convert the grouches into loveable regular guests. None of them were happy, but we put rum into everything, including the sweet treats! Yep, even children’s pancakes – so there were always happy children around!  

600 employees have enriched our team and added their own special touch, some for only a day and others for much longer – Ivo holds the record with 10 years! He has the strongest nerves. In the meantime, we unfortunately lost our beloved Papa. Even those in heaven want to eat the world’s best cakes made by Papa himself. Back in the day, he was the youngest master confectioner in Austria, and for us, he was the best confectioner in the world. With his 16-hour days, he was indestructible. He made all the repairs in the house himself – a handyman never stepped foot in the house ? and the painting… oh the painting. He and Tina spent 4 long months adding beautiful colors to the whole house!

In the meantime, Isabell, the littlest of the 2 sisters, married Mathias, and they have 2 unbelievably sweet children – Leni & Max. Mathias, who has 130 kids scurrying around Hotel Hotel Kröller on quiet days, especially appreciates Isabell’s help even though with all those kids around, the “quiet times” are a thing of the past!  

Tina and Peter are living happily ever after – hopefully… although Peter is slowly becoming worried what he will do with Tina in the future when she is no longer working 14 hours a day and only taking care of her guests in the “Gerlosperle” apartments.  

Mama Christa, who is already over 80, refuses to buy clothes suited for anyone over the age of 60, because she is no “old bag”. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and does everything with them that she didn’t have time to do with us back in the day.   

Sometimes good things come to an end so that even better things can begin. In December 2020, the MILCHBAR retired, but Antonia & Fabian will make their restaurant-bar “Dahuam.202” your new favorite place – we promise! Here you can get to know these 2 better or even make a table reservation:
